National Pride Online

Friday, March 12, 2010

Why do so few companies in Canada actively promote a .ca domain name?  Have we no sense of pride?  For the record, I have two websites (including talkinghead.ca) that both use Canadian domain names.

You don’t have to look far to find a big company that promotes its .com domain name over a .ca.  Shame on the likes of Scotiabank and The Bay.  Shame. Read the rest of this entry »

Internet to IE6: Please die

Monday, November 2, 2009

I need to use IE6 for some internal applications at work.  I have Firefox installed for regular Internet usage; occasionally I attempt to use the Internet with IE6… messages such as this are becoming pretty common now, but this one made me laugh.

The gist is: please use anything but IE6.

Goomba’s Shoe

Saturday, March 8, 2008

This is a followup to the post I need a new BlackBerry!

I finally got my new ‘berry on Monday. Even though the product was backordered since it’s brand new, I decided to go for a Red BlackBerry Curve 8310. First impression: worth the wait!

It’s amazing what a difference 23 grams makes. The Curve is noticeably lighter than my 8700 was. They keypad, although slightly narrower, is still quite easy to use, even if you’ve got manly thumbs. Unlike the more expensive “corporate” models 8700 and 8800 which come with belt clips, the 8300 series includes a pouch.

Is it just me or does it look like Super Mario with Goomba’s Shoe? See the resemblance?

I need a new BlackBerry!

Saturday, February 2, 2008

My trusty BlackBerry 8700 is nearly at the end of its useful life. It’s been in service to me for about eight months; sadly the scroll wheel is almost dead. Eight months is a rather disappointing lifespan for a cell phone, don’t you think? But, on the bright side I can look on it as an opportunity to get a new one! But which one should I get? Research in Motion now has a good lineup of products to choose from…

BlackBerry 8700
I already have one of these, so I’d know exactly what I’m getting. The 8700 is an older model now; it’s the only one left that still uses a scroll wheel. I really miss having decent media support, for example. At 134 grams, it’s got considerable bulk and heft. No, I think I’ll try for a newer model.

Rest in peace 8700
